Sugar Scrub & Wash

I have always loved the way my skin felt and looked after using a sugar scrub. What I did not like was that often the sugar and oils would separate and they were very messy to use. I felt like a lot of precious scrub was being wasted. Also there was the "before or after" dilemma!  I if I used the scrub after my shower my skin was often too greasy and if I used it before, I felt like I was washing away all of the benefits!  So of course that meant one thing. . . time to create something a bit different!

Why SUGAR Scrubs?

  • As we age there is a gradual decrease in the rate at which old dead cells leave the surface of our skin. This surface layer of dead skin cells is responsible for the appearance of dull, aged skin.

  • Exfoliation is one of the quickest and easiest ways to achieve a healthy glow to the face and body, by removing the surface layer of dead skin cells.

  • Glycolic acid, part of the chemical family referred to as alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), is a naturally occurring fruit acid found in sugar cane.

  Demerara Sugar

Alpha hydroxy acids work by stimulating dead cells on the surface of the skin and loosening the glue-like substances that hold the surface skin cells to each other.  As a result, these dead skin cells can slough off more easily. By decreasing the thickness of dead cells on the surface, the skin underneath has a fresher, healthier look with a more even color and texture.

  • Sugar scrubs can also help to unclog pores which increases cell turnover.
  • So sugar scrubs actually exfoliate in two ways: the actual "scrubbiness" of the sugar plus the added chemical composition of the sugar's AHAs.
  • Sugar is less abrasive than salt and is less irritating to sensitive skin

  • You do not need to moisturize after using a sugar scrub

About Chagrin Valley SUGAR Scrubs

We whip our Sugar Scrubs so they do not separate into oily layers.  No need to mix your scrub before using and none of that oily mess!

Adding a touch of our all natural soap creates a sugar scrub that exfoliates dead skin cells and hydrates, while gently cleansing the skin.  You can exfoliate and wash at the same time!  After massaging your skin with the scrub, wet your hands and massage again. The scrub will melt into a light cream lather. Rinse and pat dry.

Our scubs provides gentle, yet effective exfoliation and will not leave your skin feeling greasy--just smooth and clean!

You will love the way your skin feels after using our scrubs.  They stimulate dull and lifeless skin, leaving it feeling smooth and moisturized.

Dawn,
New York

Hi Ida,

Wanted to tell you how much I LOVE the new scrub for the face.  I had ordered a trial when I first saw it and used it every other day.  My skin looked and felt so great that I now use it every day in the morning.  My skin has not looked this good in 20 years and people at work asked if I was wearing a new makeup and I don’t even wear makeup.  I wasn’t sure I wanted to share my little secret but I did.  I ordered the bigger size and even though I did not mind the scent of the original (kinda smelled like molasses) I like the new one even better.  It is very refreshing especially in the morning.  I really can’t say enough. This stuff is AMAZING.  I don’t know how you come up with your ideas but I love everything I have tried from your company.  Best of luck to you all and thank you for such great really natural products

Shelf Life:  Our Facial and Body Sorbet Sugar Scrubs are a preservative free product.

  • They are made in very small batches using the freshest ingredients available.

  • Sugar is a Natural preservative.  Jams and jellies are a method of preserving fruit.  Moisture in your scrub will become saturated with dissolved sugar. This creates a hypertonic solution, which basically dehydrates the moisture out of bacteria through a process called osmosis.

  • A touch of orange essential oil also helps a bit!

However, since you will be exposing your scrub to bacteria and other contaminants each time you reach into the container to take out product, this scrub will still have a shorter shelf life than similar product with synthetic preservatives.

PLEASE . . .

  • Store away from heat
  • Keep the jar lid tightly sealed
  • Do not introduce water into the sugar scrub jar.  Water encourages the growth of mold and bacteria.

The way WE use our BODY Scrubs!

A level tablespoon is enough for one shower (although you may like more or less). Scoop out the scrub with a clean spoon and roll into a little ball (the size of a melon ball). Take it in your shower/bath and pinch off small pieces to use.

OR

Use a clean utensil to scoop the desired amount of scrub into a clean, tiny jar and work from that small portion as you exfoliate in your bath or shower.

Either method will help keep your jar of scrub fresh longer!

For maximum freshness, use the scrub within a month or two after opening!

Types of Sugar

Demerara Sugar is a type of natural, unrefined brown cane sugar.  Rich in natural sugar cane molasses, it is made from pressed sugar cane which is steamed to form thick cane syrup. The syrup is dehydrated to form large golden brown crystals.  Demerara sugar is rich in calcium, phosphorus, iron and potassium. These minerals are only found in trace amounts in refined white sugar.  It takes its name from the Demerara colony in Guyana, the original source of this type of sugar. We use Fair Trade certified organic Demerara sugar.

Turbinado Sugar is refined slightly more than demerara, and has a lighter brown color with smaller crystals.  It is a relatively unprocessed cane sugar, unrefined and crystallized through evaporation.  It is spun in a cylinder or turbine, hence its name. "Sugar in the Raw" is this type of sugar, although in North America raw sugar is actually not "raw" as it has been partially refined to remove any contaminants. Turbinado sugar crystals are much larger, and are made at an earlier period in the sugar cane processing method than cane sugar.  So the turbinado crystals are coarser than refined sugar but finer than demerara. We use Fair Trade certified organic Turbinado sugar.

Sugar Cane Sugar  made from sugar cane has some residual molasses and is a very light blond color since it is not processed to the same degree as is white beet sugar. Cane sugar contains trace vitamins and minerals that are different from those in beet sugar  We use Fair Trade certified organic cane sugar.  Sugar cane is generally known for requiring a high amount of pesticides for growth in traditional growing methods, so some crop loss is assured when using organic methods. This translates to lower sugar production and higher prices
